Gaskets for Drinking Water Service

Gaskets from Teadit TF 1572 SAN sheet certified to NSF/ANSI 61

Recent events in Flint, Michigan in the USA have highlighted the need to use joint sealing materials that do not leach contaminants into drinking water. With the advent of Teadit TF 1572 SAN, Canada Rubber Group Inc. (CRGI) customers now have available a new material choice for the production of gaskets for drinking water service.

The advent and adoption of the NSF/ANSI 61 standard means that traditional materials used in water sealing applications, such as gaskets and seals fashioned from red rubber, are giving to newer generation materials which are compliant with the requirements of NSF/ANSI 61.

Developed by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), NSF/ANSI 61 includes criteria for testing and evaluating products to ensure they do not leach hazardous contaminants into water. Developed by a team of scientists, industry experts and key industry stakeholders, NSF/ANSI 61 establishes minimum criteria for impurities and contaminants that may be released indirectly into drinking water from products, components and materials, including joining and sealing materials such as gaskets and seals.

Teadit TF 1572 SAN PTFE Sheet

Tealon TF 1572 SAN is a structured PTFE sheet manufactured by Teadit North America. TF 1572 SAN is made using a unique process which provides a high level of fibrillation to overcome the creep relaxation and cold flow problems associated with normal (skived or molded) PTFE sheets. This style is produced from virgin PTFE resin filled with hollow glass microspheres.

Tealon TF 1572 SAN is suitable for service with a wide variety of aggressive media, but is specifically formulated to allow compliance for drinking water system components with NSF/ANSI 61, from source to tap. Certification to NSF/ANSI 61 provides assurance to a highest level that TF 1572 SAN is safe for use in drinking water service. The high compressibility of this style sheet makes it particularly suitable for use with stress sensitive and/or fragile flanged joints, e.g. glass, ceramics, plastic, etc. An added benefit is that TF 1572 SAN has a strong dielectric rating, making it suitable for isolation kit applications.
