Let it Snow! Rubber Deflector Strips and Cutting Edges for Snow Plows

Municipalities and contractors responsible for removing snow from residential and commercial properties will now be gearing up their equipment for the season to come. For over 30 years, CRG has been supplying the industry with custom fabricated rubber deflector strips and cutting edges for snow plows, helping operators to clear snow efficiently, effectively, and safely.

Rubber deflector strips and cutting edges for snow plows: deflector strips

Rubber deflector strips are mounted onto the top surface of a snow plow blade to improve containment and blade efficiency. These strips prevent snow from spilling over the top of the blade, resulting more complete clearing with less remaining residue.

Snow plow deflector strips from CRG are fabricated using a heavy-duty rubber belting that is designed to withstand the rigors of winter weather. These deflector strips are long-lasting, and will maintain their flexibility in cold weather without cracking or becoming brittle. The quality and durability of CRG deflector strips can save operators time and money in less downtime and less frequent replacement.

CRG rubber deflector strips are individually fabricated to each customer’s specific requirements. Our deflector strips can be custom fabricated to fit almost any plow blade size or configuration and we can, if desired, imprint your deflector strip with your company name and logo.

Rubber deflector strips and cutting edges for snow plows: cutting edges

Snow plow blades fitted with a rubber cutting edge can effectively clear snow from paved roads and lots with minimal damage to the surface. A plow blade equipped with a rubber cutting edge functions like a squeegee, removing more accumulated snow, slush, and moisture than a steel blade from the road surface. Because the rubber cutting edge leaves behind less residual moisture, the risk of surface freezing is reduced, making for safer driving conditions after plowing.

CRG fabricates rubber cutting edges from a rubber compound that is especially formulated for its flexibility and toughness. These flexible cutting edges readily adapt to irregularities in the road surface, resulting in more complete clearing of snow and slush. An additional benefit is that unlike a steel-only blade or edge, a rubber cutting edge will not gouge or damage the road surface or any raised reflective markers (“cat’s eyes”) mounted into the road.

CRG rubber cutting edges are fabricated from an extremely tough rubber compound designed to resist abrasion, tearing and shredding. This compound has a high tensile strength of 2,500 psi (pounds per square inch) minimum and a tear resistance of 504 ppi (pounds per inch). CRG rubber cutting edges fabricated from this strong and resilient compound will service operating temperatures down to -40°C without becoming brittle.

CRG can custom fabricate its rubber cutting edges to fit on any type of plow blade, including straight plows, V-plows, Jeep-type plows, under-mounted plows and scraper blades. Each cutting edge comes provided with slots which permit easy installation and adjustment. These rubber cutting edges allow plow operators to enjoy the lower operating costs that come from more efficient clearing and reduced blade damage. Plow blades fitted with a CRG rubber cutting edge also absorb shocks and bumps from uneven road surfaces better than their steel-only counterparts, yielding a smoother cab ride for the operator.

CRG rubber cutting edges are available in a variety of lengths and three standard widths:

  • 12 inch width – suitable for V-plows

  • 10 inch width – front-mounted plows

  • 8 inch width – underbody-mounted plows and graders

CRG can supply rubber deflector strips and cutting edges in any quantity to manufacturers of snow plows, as well as those operating and maintaining small or large fleets.
