All About Kiss Cut and Kiss Slit Adhesive Backed Parts

For industrial and automotive applications, CRG regularly supplies kiss cut and kiss slit adhesive backed parts manufactured from a variety of materials, including rubbers, foams and sponges, and specialty materials.

What is Kiss Cutting?

Kiss cutting is a production process used to make “peel and stick” parts. Kiss cut parts are usually supplied in roll or pad form, on an adhesive backed release liner. In kiss cutting, the cutting process cuts through the material and the adhesive layer on the release liner, and then partially cuts into the liner itself, so that the part can be easily separated and removed from the liner, ready for use.

At CRG, we use rotary die cutting and high-speed die cutting presses to produce kiss cut adhesive backed parts. Rotary die cutting is preferred for high-volume part production. Using rotary die cutting, CRG can produce kiss cut parts at high speed, as well as executing high speed slitting, laminating, guillotining, windup, and part printing, thus eliminating the need for secondary operations. High-speed die cutting press production is preferred for lower-volume production of kiss cut parts.

What are the Advantages of Kiss Cut and Kiss Slit Adhesive Backed Parts?

Kiss cut and kiss slit adhesive backed parts are a preferred choice when large volumes of the same small part have to be handled, applied and affixed in a production process or application.

Because kiss cut and kiss slit adhesive backed parts are typically supplied in rolls or pads, the parts are easy to store, handle and use. At workstations where the kiss cut and kiss slit parts are used, they can be easily dispensed from the roll or pad and affixed for end use. Because the kiss cutting process partially cuts into the release liner, production personnel can easily separate cut parts from the liner, facilitating the application process and increasing worker productivity and throughput.

What Materials can be Used to Make Kiss Cut and Kiss Slit Adhesive Backed Parts?

CRG produces kiss cut and kiss slit parts from a wide range of materials, including silicone and non-silicone rubbers, foams and sponges (silicone and non-silicone), non-wovens, and specialty materials including vinyl, felt and flock, corks, etc.

Because kiss cutting and kiss slitting places no stress or stretch on the material being cut, this method of production is a preferred choice for manufacturing cut parts from delicate materials.
