Flexible Rubber Pipe and Tube Insulation

Flexible rubber pipe and tube insulation is used to check heat gain and control condensation drip from cold-water plumbing, chilled water, and refrigeration lines. It also efficiently reduces heat loss and flow for hot water plumbing, liquid heating and dual temperature piping. Now, CRG is offering Aerocel® closed cell EPDM insulation to effectively service these applications.

Why Closed Cell EPDM Pipe and Tube Insulation?

The closed-cell structure of Aerocel® EPDM insulation effectively retards the flow of moisture vapour. Aerocel® pipe and tube insulation supplied by CRG requires no supplemental vapour retarder protection.

What are the Advantages and Specifications of Aerocel® Flexible Rubber Pipe and Tube Insulation?

Advantages and specifications of Aerocel® insulation include the following:

  • Continuous 125**°C (257°F) service temperature.** Aerocel® pipe insulation exceeds a ductless split system required service temperature of 120°C (248°F).

  • Non-corrosive. Aerocel® can be used on copper, aluminum and stainless steel pipes and tubes without risk of corrosion.

  • Superior water vapour resistance. Handles the colder operating temperatures of Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems without water absorption.

  • Low VOC emissions. Works in sustainable construction and areas where fumes and emissions from Volatile Organic Compounds (VOC) are undesirable.

  • Real UV resistance. No weather barrier is needed, reducing installed cost and improving long-term investment.

  • Wide range of sizes available. Available in a range of Inside Diameters (ID) from 0.25” up to 2.125”. Comes in wall thicknesses of 0.5”, 0.75”, 1.0”, 1.5” and 2.0”.

In addition to the specifications listed above, Aerocel® EPDM also conforms to the following standards: ASTM C 534, ASTM D 1056, NY City MEA #171-04-M, City of LA RR-8413, UL 181 Section 12 Mold Growth/Humidity, UL 181 Section 17 Air Erosion, UL 94 5 V-0, UL 723, NFPA 90A and 90B, MIL l528OJ.

Other advantages of Aerocel® include a 25/50 flame and smoke rating, low halogen content, and a K-value of 0.245 to deliver low energy costs.

How Easy to Use is Aerocel® Flexible Rubber Pipe and Tube Insulation?

Aerocel® EPDM insulation is designed for installation above and below ground, indoors and outdoors. Aerocel® insulation supplied in un-slit tubular form can be easily slipped onto pipe sections before they are connected, or it can be supplied with a lengthwise slit for ready placement over pipe sections which are already connected. Butt joints and seams are sealed with contact adhesive - both surfaces to be joined are coated with adhesive. No protective finish is required once the insulation is in place.

Of interest to installers and contractors is the fact that Aerocel® insulation is easily installed on large sections of piping or tubing using Cel-Link II®. Cel-Link II® is a revolutionary method for joining sections of Aerocel® insulation using a proprietary dual-direction pressure-sensitive closure.
