Rubber Wedge Rings for Sealing Misaligned Joints

When installing gaskets, a problem often encountered in the field is that of dealing with misaligned joints. Alignment problems in joints can arise for a variety of reasons. These include flange mis-mounting and surface irregularities, variations in pipe hanging, etc. Whatever the reason, the result is the same – flange surfaces that are not parallel to each other, causing gaps that must be filled to achieve an effective seal.

A quick and easy way to solve the challenges of sealing misaligned joints is through the use of rubber wedge rings. Rubber wedge rings are ideally suited for solving joint alignment issues either during the assembly of jointed systems or the replacement of gaskets within systems already installed.

About Rubber Wedge Rings

Canada Rubber Group (CRG) can supply rubber wedge rings manufactured by Kroll & Ziller. The Kroll & Ziller G-ST wedge ring consists of a shell structure with an inner elastomeric flat gasket combined into a single unit. The G-ST wedge ring allows users to solve joint misalignments from 0° to 8° simply and easily.

In use, each G-ST wedge ring is infinitely variable from 0 to 8 degrees by rotating the assembly to solve pipe misalignment. These wedge rings are designed to be used in conjunction with a rubber-steel gasket on each side.  The wedge ring contains a flat rubber-steel gasket inside the assembly to provide superior sealing.

Key benefits of the G-ST wedge rings include the following:

  • The steel gasket inside each wedge ring is manufactured from electro coated blue, carbon steel.

  • Misalignment in piping systems from 0 to 8 degrees can be successfully addressed.

  • Using the G-ST rubber wedge ring to address joint misalignment relieves stress from the system and/or pump, thereby increasing the equipment longevity.

G-ST rubber wedge rings are an excellent choice for addressing joint misalignment issues in industrial systems and equipment, including those installed in manufacturing facilities, steel mills, power plants, petrochemical facilities, pharmaceutical manufacturing, and others. G-ST wedge rings can also be used successfully with G-ST-P gaskets to address joint misalignment issues in gas and drinking water systems. G-ST wedge rings are an essential MRO item. They are available in a variety of sizes to suit most jointing systems. To find out more about G-ST wedge rings, please contact our sales department at crg@canadarubbergroup.com.
