Automotive Fuel Tank Isolator Pads

During vehicle operation, the fuel tank and fuel supply system may be subject to the effects of vibration and noise. The vehicle fuel pump can emit noise when in operation, while the fuel tank itself experiences stress as it comes into contact with vehicle underbody and frame components. Isolating the fuel tank and pump through the use of automotive fuel tank isolator pads can greatly increase the life and reliability of fuel system components.

In a previous blog, Fuel Tank Cushions, we highlighted the key role that CRGI fuel tank cushions can play in isolating the effects of vibration on a vehicle fuel tank. Fuel tank cushions are used in automotive vehicle manufacture to isolate the vehicle fuel tank from the supporting straps which attach the tank to the vehicle body. The fuel tank cushion often consists of an extrusion strip of EPDM rubber that is affixed onto the straps which secure the fuel tank onto the vehicle body, thus isolating the fuel tank from its supporting carriers. Once installed, a fuel tank cushion prevents the fuel tank from abrading on the mounting brackets, preventing unnecessary wear and noise.

Automotive Fuel Tank Isolator Pads from CRGI

Automotive OEM companies also use die cut forms from microcellular closed cell foam as fuel tank isolator pads. These pads are placed strategically on the fuel tank and are designed to isolate vibration and noise caused by component contact and fuel pump operation.

In supplying automotive fuel tank isolator pads, CRGI uses high quality microcellular closed cell foam of varying thicknesses, depending upon design or program specifications. These foam pieces effectively reduce vibration and noise, and offer excellent compression set resistance which provides long-term performance and reliability. Parts can be supplied with pressure-sensitive adhesive (PSA) backing, kiss-cut on a roll, to facilitate installation.

If you are sourcing or buying automotive fuel tank isolator pads for a vehicle program, you can have full confidence in CRGI’s proven capabilities as a supply partner. All aspects of our operations conform to the ISO 9001:2008 standard, and we have a proven capability in supplying products which meet ASTM D2000 line call-outs, as well as the material specifications of major OEM’s, including those of General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, Honda, Toyota, and Volvo. In those cases where a new specification is required, we work with our supply chain partners to develop an appropriate solution that meets or exceeds all requirements.

In addition to supplying automotive fuel tank isolator pads to vehicle programs, CRGI can also supply a wide array of parts from closed and open cell sponge that service varied automotive applications. These include parts for air dams, draft diversion, hood seals, vibration dampening, noise control, electronics, and appliance applications. As with the solid rubber automotive parts we supply to various vehicle programs, CRGI can provide a range of packaging and supply options to improve our customers’ efficiency in transportation, handling and storage.
