Automotive: Viton and Vamac

Many automotive applications require gaskets and components that are fabricated from heat resistant materials. These thermal applications can be particularly hard to deal with as the high temperatures may compromise the performance and integrity of the gasket or component being used. Viton™ and Vamac® are two performance rubber materials that can be used to service these demanding applications.

When fabricating gaskets, seals and components for automotive thermal applications, CRGI often uses Viton and Vamac materials. Because they are especially designed and formulated to withstand the rigors of thermal applications, these heat resistant elastomers provide superior performance in applications involving thermal stress. Both Viton and Vamac are important contributors to vehicle efficiency: these high-performance materials can help reduce the size and weight of gas and diesel engines, thus boosting fuel economy and overall performance.

Viton and Vamac Parts and Components

Viton™

Viton is a brand of fluoroelastomer (FKM) developed by DuPont. Commonly used in the fabrication of automotive seals and parts, Viton possesses good heat resistance characteristics. It is also impervious to attack by many chemicals and automotive fluids, including biodiesel.

For automotive applications, CRGI supplies a variety of products fashioned from Viton. These include turbo-charging system components, fuel system components, seals, sleeves, O-rings, etc. These parts and components function extremely well in applications involving high temperatures and aggressive fluids and chemicals.

Vamac®

Vamac, another DuPont product, is a heat and chemical resistant ethylene acrylic elastomer (AEM). It is widely used in demanding automotive applications where heat and chemical resistance, together with rubber-like properties, are desired.  Vamac delivers long-term reliability in aggressive environments where chemical exposure over a wide temperature range is encountered.

CRGI uses Vamac to service automotive applications involving powertrains and air management systems. Engine and transmission seals fabricated from Vamac exhibit superior resistance to automotive service fluids. The material also retains its sealing properties when under compression. Other automotive applications which CRGI can service with Vamac include the fabrication of connectors, dampers, boots, and sleeves.

CRGI understands the importance of quality and value-add in the supply of automotive rubber parts, including those made from Viton and Vamac. All aspects of our operations conform to the ISO 9001:2008 standard, and we have a proven capability in supplying products which meet ASTM D2000 line call-outs, as well as the material specifications of major automakers, including General Motors, Ford, Chrysler, Nissan, Mazda, BMW, Honda, Toyota, and Volvo.

If you are looking to source a supplier of heat resistant elastomers for automotive or other applications, CRGI is your partner of choice.
