EPDM: properties
EPDM (ethylene propylene diene monomer) is an M-Class rubber. A synthetic rubber, EPDM is one of the most popular and versatile rubber compounds available. The main properties of EPDM are its outstanding heat, ozone and weather resistance. It has excellent electrical insulating properties. It has good resistance to steam, ketones, ordinary diluted acids and alkalines. It is also sulfur and peroxide curable. EPDM can withstand temperatures spanning from -40°F to 250°F, intermittent to +275°F.
EPDM rubber gaskets: applications
Compared to rubber gaskets made from other compounds, EPDM rubber gaskets and seals are extremely resistant to wear, ageing, weather, ozone and UV-light. As such, they are ideal for outdoor sealing applications. Industrial applications which are well-served by EPDM include rubber gaskets, seals, O-rings, and fabricated rubber components for:
General industrial gasketing and sealing applications
Water system seals, including those requiring rubber compounds certified to NSF-61 standard for potable water applications
Brake system seals, including those for glycol-based brake systems
Ozone exposure applications
FDA-approved applications
Because of its poor resistance to petroleum oils and solvents, it is not recommended to use EPDM rubber gaskets for applications with petroleum oils, mineral oil, di-ester lubricants, or fuel exposure.
CRGI fabricates EPDM rubber gaskets using the latest production technology, including CNC waterjet, flashcut, and die cut equipment. We fabricate EPDM rubber gaskets from EPDM material in a wide variety of grades, thicknesses and hardness. EPDM grades from which we currently supply rubber gaskets and fabricated products include:
Commercial (Economy) Grade EPDM
High Grade (Premium) EPDM
Peroxide Cure EPDM
White FDA Approved EPDM
EPDM Sponge
