Tough, durable material an ideal choice for custom fabricated rubber products
Conveyor belting is a tough material that is characterized by ruggedness, lateral stiffness, and resistance to punctures, wear and abrasion. Given its special properties, it is an ideal material from which to produce fabricated rubber products and parts for heavy industrial uses.
When using conveyor belting to produce fabricated rubber products, we choose the belting type and thickness that is best suited for the application at hand. Conveyor belting is available in a range of thicknesses, and belting reinforced with polyester, nylon, or Kevlar® is available to provide exceptional puncture and wear resistance.
Thicknesses of conveyor belting we typically work with ranges from ¼” 2-ply material, all the way up to 7/8” thick 5-ply belt material. Thinner belt materials are generally used where some flexibility is required by the application, without sacrificing any durability or strength. Thicker belting is a preferred choice for heavy-duty applications, such as skirting for aggregate conveying equipment.
A key attribute of conveyor belting is its ability to provide resistance to punctures, tears, and weathering. While thicker belting will provide increased resistance to punctures and tears, choosing belting that is reinforced with polyester, nylon or Kevlar® will provide ultimate protection against these assaults. Kevlar® reinforced belt is particularly resistant to punctures and tears – Kevlar® is an aramid fibre that is five times as strong as steel on an equal weight basis and affords the greatest resistance to puncturing and tearing.
Fabricated rubber products made from conveyor belting offer decided advantages over those made from standard reinforced rubber sheet. Fabricated rubber products we have fashioned from conveyor belting include: equipment skirting and guarding; replacement belts for slingers and other industrial equipment; snow plow blade deflectors; equipment pads; mud flaps; truck bed liners; dock bumpers; and more.
In our fabrication process, we can slit conveyor belting to width and drill holes in the material to permit bolt insertion where required. A further advantage of conveyor belting as a material is that it will resist weathering at bolt holes – providing protection above and beyond that available from standard reinforced rubber sheet.
