Sanitary Gaskets from NSF-61 Certified EPDM

More and more, CRG is being asked to supply sanitary gaskets from NSF/ANSI Standard 61 (commonly referred to as "NSF-61") certified EPDM. With NSF-61 certified EPDM, CRG can fabricate gaskets for use in applications that require non-leaching materials for potable (drinking) water.

Applications that can derive benefit with sanitary gaskets from NSF-61 certified EPDM include public drinking water distribution, water storage tanks and reservoirs, water meters, pumping equipment, valves and piping, plumbing devices, etc.

What is NSF-61?

NSF-61 is a standard developed by the National Sanitation Foundation (NSF) and the American National Standards Institute (ANSI). The standard includes criteria for testing and evaluating products to ensure they do not leach hazardous contaminants into water. Developed by a team of scientists, industry experts and key industry stakeholders, NSF-61 establishes minimum criteria for impurities and contaminants that may be released indirectly into drinking water from products, components and materials, including joining and sealing materials such as gaskets and seals.

Why Choose EPDM Gaskets for Potable Drinking Water Applications?

EPDM rubber has a number of properties that make it a preferred material choice for sanitary applications. This rubber compound has excellent resistance to heat, ozone and sunlight, and superior resistance to water and steam. It also offers good flexibility at low temperatures.

Who Can Use Sanitary Gaskets from NSF-61 Certified EPDM?

Municipal water treatment and distribution systems will be interested in sanitary gaskets from NSF-61 certified EPDM. More and more, these systems are coming under the control of regulations which mandate the use of gaskets made from NSF-61 certified materials. In addition, other applications where assuring the health and safety of potable drinking water is important will increasingly fall under the purview of such regulations in the future.

CRG Sanitary Gaskets from NSF-61 Certified EPDM

CRG fabricates sanitary gaskets from NSF-61 certified EPDM using AB-576 sheet supplied by American Biltrite. This sheet satisfies the requirements of NSF-61 as well as the AWWA C111/A21.11 standard. The AWWA C11/A21.11 standard, developed by the American Water Works Association (AWWA), establishes the minimum requirements for rubber gasket joints for ductile-iron pressure pipe and ductile-iron and gray-iron fittings, including requirements and inspection.

AB-576 EPDM sheet will service a temperature range from -40°F (-40°C) to 275°F (135°C). The sheet has a maximum pressure rating of 250 psig (17 bar). One of the most important properties of AB-576 sheet is its ability to resist compression set – this sheet exhibits optimum compression set values of 20% maximum for 22 hours at 70°C.

All gaskets CRG makes are produced on the latest CNC technology in our ISO 9001 registered facility, assuring close-tolerance cutting and superior quality, fit and finish. We are equally adept at handling short-run or long-run orders. Short order turnaround and emergency service are available upon request.

If you have a need for sanitary gaskets, CRG will be pleased to review your needs and explain the advantages of NSF-61 certified EPDM.
