Kiss Cut Rubber Parts

Kiss cutting is a form of cutting where a material is not cut all the way through to an attached adhesive backing or liner. In kiss cutting, a lighter cutting stroke is employed. This ensures that the final cut part can be easily removed from the backing. An example of a kiss cut rubber part would be where gaskets or other parts are supplied in roll form on a Pressure Sensitive Adhesive (PSA) backing or liner.

Kiss Cut Rubber Parts: Advantages

Kiss cut parts offer several advantages. These include the following:

  • Ease of use and handling. Kiss cutting results in the provision of an adhesive liner on one side of the final product. For parts that are used in high-volume repetitive processes, such as automotive assembly, workers can quickly and easily detach the cut parts from the adhesive liner and place them into position. The ease-of-handling introduced by detaching parts from the liner, rather than trying to detach the liner from the part, enhances productivity and makes kiss cut rubber parts a preferred choice for high-volume operations.

  • Convenience. For parts that are used only intermittently, kiss cut parts may be taken from storage, unrolled and peeled off for use, with the remainder re-rolled and placed back into storage.

  • Kiss cutting offers superior precision and accuracy over standard die cutting. With kiss cutting, a wide range of diverse materials of varying thickness can be cut cleanly and precisely.
